(Delated gratification)
Delayed Gratification
The marshmallow effect (delayed gratification) refers to an individual's ability to postpone current satisfaction or reward in order to obtain a greater future benefit or payoff. This concept originated from the famous "marshmallow experiment" conducted by psychologist Walter Mischel in the 1960s.
In this experiment, researchers left young children alone in a room and provided them with one marshmallow, telling them that if they could wait for a certain period of time without eating it, they would receive an additional marshmallow as a reward. The study found that children who were able to delay their immediate gratification tended to exhibit better self-control and resilience in later life.
1.The impact of delayed gratification on personal development: Individuals with the ability to delay gratification often demonstrate better self-discipline, academic performance, and social skills.
2. Shaping decision-making and behavioral patterns: Delayed gratification influences individuals to make long-term beneficial decisions, rather than impulsive short-term actions.
